Cabela is 10 years old, Ravyn is 9 years old and Canela is 3 years old – all female Siberian Huskies. (No they are not sisters.) The old man is quite a bit older. In dog years he’s 14.
Their names are the ones given to them by their original owners. Cabela was named after the sporting goods store: ‘Cabelas’. Canela was named from the Spanish word for cinnamon (I thought that was really cool. Thanks Maria.) Ravyn…well… that’s pretty much obvious.

Here, tucked away in the mountains of western North Carolina, we will try to share some of our travels and adventures together, along with those moments of just hanging around the house.

Cabela, Ravyn and I have been together for 3 years now. Canela just joined our home in mid February. After 2 months together we are starting to settle in to a very peaceful life though it was kind of rocky the first month together. Cabela and Ravyn were not all that excited about having this teenage beauty move into their ‘retirement home’. But after a couple of weeks of keeping them separated in the house and introducing them cautiously, the three of them are starting to accept each other. Mostly this is due to Canela’s personality. Canela is not a fighter and any time Cabela or Ravyn would go after her she would just back away and give them their space. This always diffused the tension between them quickly. After the first month Cabela and Ravyn realized that Canela was not a threat to them and they soon started to get along wonderfully.

Our blog going forward will be about the four of us and what it’s like to live with 3 independent strong willed Huskies. So far the only really difficult part of living with Huskies that I can see after 3 years is the hair/shedding and the leash pulling. But both of these things are just part of having a Husky.

We hope you enjoy your visit here and find a bit of our lives funny and interesting. Our hope is that you will see what a joy it can be to let a dog, or two, or three, into your life and what a difference it can make in their lives also. And maybe find it in your heart to provide a warm, kind nurturing home for a lonely dog who’s only dream is that someone will come by and take him/her home and just simply love them.
