March 25, 2025 at 12:59 am #2011Old manKeymasterWhat’s life like with 3 huskies? Sometimes I feel more like an unemployed, stay at home single dad with 3 adorable but needy kids, but there’s never a moment I don’t consider myself a very lucky old man that 3 beautiful huskies want to share their life with me.
They each, in a very special way, put a smile on my face the second we all wake up. Throughout the day that smile turns into laughter, singing songs together, exploring the forest trails, rubbing bellies and sometimes just doing mundane chores together.
And by the end of the day, after a good home cooked dinner and a treat of fresh sliced apples with a spoonful of frozen yogurt, Cabela, Ravyn, Canela & I all settle back to bed. Giggling, playing and still smiling as we each fall happily back to sleep. Into a land of twinkling stars, twitching paws and quiet husky snores.

Canela was totally pressed up against my back. I could still see the stars flickering through the leafless tree branches through the bedroom window. Her paws were dancing across my back as if she was running somewhere. Her body would twitch, twist just a bit and she would continue to run.
Was she dreaming? Remembering a trail we walked on? Should I wake her? Absolutely not! Was she running along the narrow trail through the canopy of rhododendron, jumping over the fallen trees, splashing through the gurgling creek?
From the feel of her feet against my back she was moving along the trail quickly. Running from something? Or did she spot a rabbit and instantly took off for the chase?
I was lying there in the darkness of the night feeling the vibrations of her dream along the length of me. I kept wondering what she was dreaming about. Where was she? I kept hoping she was ok but not wanting to wake her up to find out.
Her feet started to slow down. Her twitching stopped. She exhaled a long deep sigh and breath into the night. Did she catch the rabbit? Oh no!! I hope she’s not stopping to pee…
Her body relaxed. Another soft sigh and it was back to a deep calm sleep. She rolled over and pressed herself tightly against me. We both went back to sleep. -
